Pegasus Early Music

Welcome to the fourth season of Pegasus Early Music, Rochester’s early music concert series. Over the past three years, we have established ourselves as a presence in the Rochester arts scene. Our loyal and enthusiastic audiences know us now for our varied concert offerings, the exceptional excellence of our performing artists, the beauty and immediacy of the music we play, and the passionate, personal, and assured way we bring this music to your ears and hearts.

We invite you to join us for a season of music ranging from Shakespeare’s lute music to Mozart, from the virtuosic tones of the Three Ladies to the glorious sound of trumpets.

This season we are expanding to present two Special Event concerts, both in the Tiffany-windowed, comfortable, and acoustically warm Downtown United Presbyterian Church.  In September you will hear Bohemian Rhapsody, a program of unusual baroque music for strings and trumpets. In March, our favorite fortepianist Kris Bezuidenhout will return to Rochester with his musical partner violinist Petra Müllejans to give us a taste of their new recording, Mozart Sonatas and Variations.

Our series concerts, in the intimate beauty of the Academy of Medicine, will also offer delights. The Three Ladies, a trio of singers including the incomparable Laura Heimes, will thrill you in late October with virtuosic early Italian music written specifically for ensembles of women, long before the Three Tenors! In February, world-renowned soprano Julianne Baird joins oboist Geoffrey Burgess for a program of arias; a real treat to hear them in such a special venue! In May, actress Brigitt Markusfeld and lutenist Deborah Fox will evoke the era of Shakespeare with readings and music designed to complement each other in dramatic and revealing ways.

Fabulous music played with panache and joy, elucidating pre-concert talks, receptions to greet the musicians, educational opportunities for audience members and students: we offer this musical experience to you. There is something for everyone---virtuosity, beauty, inspiration, humor, reflection. Please join us!
