Welcome to the 7th season of Pegasus Early Music! As artistic director, I am excited to craft a season of music each year that will intrigue, delight, and move you. This year we will offer you a taste of a unique multi-cultural musical tradition, pay homage to a master, visit with royalty, and experience a musical revolution. You’ll have the chance to contemplate art and music and meet some wonderful new artists who will join your Pegasus favorites.
Last June, we tried something new, and presented a Summer Concert with fortepianist Kristian Bezuidenhout in the fabulous new Hatch Recital Hall at the Eastman School of Music. The sold-out event was a wonderful start to our 7th season!
We begin our subscription season with music of Spain, where the vihuela and the harp accompanied songs of love and conquest; docents from the Memorial Art Gallery will show you the Spanish collection to complement the music. Then the magnetic violinist Libby Wallfisch returns with a program dedicated to the music of Bach, including readings from his adventurous life. In February we present a program of chamber concertos for strings and winds written for courtly occasions. And in May, the innovative music of Claudio Monteverdi takes the stage; you will hear how his ideas brought music to new expressive heights that still make an impression today.
This is music that we at Pegasus Early Music love, and we love to play for you. Your enthusiasm and support have kept us going for the past six years, and make Rochester a venue where musicians want to perform. Pegasus Early Music combines the thrill of live performance, creative programming, and dazzling performing artists. Please join us for our 7th season for some new and different musical adventures, and to experience the magic of our music for yourself!
