What is Pegasus Early Music?

In our 5 seasons, we have presented 21 programs with 41 different world-class performers including instrumentalists, singers, actors, a poet, a dancer, and a doctor!  We have performed 400+ years of music –medieval, renaissance, baroque and classical--played on original instruments with careful attention to historical context, character, and style.

But more importantly, Pegasus Early Music delivers music of the past with expressive relevance today. We emphasize the human side of music-making, the “reach out and touch it” approach to making music accessible, meaningful, and engaging to our audiences.  Our style encourages the spontaneous events-- the ornamentation and improvisation, the collaboration and communication--that happen on stage between our artists and overflow into the audience.

In our 6th season, you will hear some familiar audience favorites---violinist Libby Wallfisch returns by popular acclaim, our own world-famous lutenist Paul O’Dette will perform a solo recital, and the fabulous soprano Laura Heimes will shine in an intimate program of English song.

We will also bring you new performers and repertoire that perhaps you haven’t heard before: you will hear our first countertenor, the dazzling voice and winning presence of Brazilian José Lemos; our first mini-opera-ballet, Terpsicore; and a gorgeous program based on the catchy ciaconnas and other repeating bass line forms you have enjoyed in earlier concerts. We have found some new venues this year, with superior acoustics and comfort for all, and we look forward to hearing how you like them.

Pegasus Early Music combines the thrill of live performance, creative programming, and dazzling performing artists. Please join us for our 6th season for some new and different musical adventures, and to experience the magic of our music for yourself!
